Jim - I saw your first article on Guitar Noise so it led me to your site. Very nice job and I like your philosophy and writing style. I share many of your sentiments. Best of luck with everything!

Yeah, the Springsteen inclusion is a head scratcher if there ever was one. But Paul Kossoff is a great choice. There is no doubt that his solo on "All Right Now" is absolutely iconic and one of the great solos in classic rock history.

Keep an eye out for more Unsung Guitar Heroes - and please pass along some suggestions!

Bruce Springsteen wouldn't make my top 1000 favourite guitarsts, never mind top 100. Even if I could only think of 999, I make something up for the last one.
I was pleasantly surprised to see my favouite guitarist Paul Kossoff in at 51. He's another who usually gets left off these lists.
It's a shame that a lot of great guitarists like Alex Lifeson and Steve Lukather from your previous article don't get the name recognition they deserve.

Thanks, Gary - glad you got something out of it! And I've got a cool lesson upcoming on dealing with that "oddball" - that is, diminished - 7th triad. Cheers!

Hi Jim, great lesson again, thanks. It's good to see guitar theory explained in a way that's easy to understand. It's reinforced and added to what I already know.
I know the first, fourth, and fifth chords are major. Second, third, and sixth minor. And seventh is some oddball chord.
What I didn't realise is why they are major or minor, I just accepted it as fact. Seeing the triads of each scale tone of the scale has now made me realise why they are major or minor.
Thanks again.

I couldn't agree more Jim. Both in the message of your post and that of Jamies'. Recognising the desire and passion within a student and devising ways to tease that out so that the student develops to their maximum potential should be the goal of every teacher.

Nice post.

Interesting story. It's a little sad to me, honestly, that some musicians have zero desire to learn to communicate with their fellow musicians in a "musical" way. Instead they would rather point to a fret and say, "Just put your finger there." I'm going to assume that it is just rampant laziness.

And although playing comes first and theory comes second, just knowing the basics of your instrument and the fundamentals of music theory instantly makes you a more powerful musician. What could possibly be bad about that?
